Lay It Down

To bring it to a flame

I like it, I want it

I intend to keep it

As long as you let me

It simply is this

You move me

You always have

Stephen Pursell, 3/26/15

I wonder if you will blow on it

I watch it, I stir it

It's a simple ember

But not glitzy and showy

It's peaceful and wondrous

It's tender and selfless

It's gentle and breezy and sweet

It's simple

You touched me

You looked me over

I felt it when you sat next to me

I will tell you

Considering that I never have before

It is about you

It is about the children

Where does this come from?

Why do I talk this way?

That is the beauty of it

It never would be

It's not about me

Give you some time to breathe

Just wanting to hold you up

Something

Drive the kids somewhere

Cook, rub your feet

Do the shopping, do the laundry

To fill a gap in your busy life

Do something to contribute

Just wanting to lighten your load

So I dream of serving you

But it is a beautiful thing

That wouldn't be easy

You are a Lioness

You have cubs to look after

Awareness of the struggle

There is honesty, simplicity

Indeed just the opposite

No impossibly grandiose dreams

There is no fantasy

I am no longer a kid

It's not idolatrous

But a lot, plenty

I have many other things to consider

Not all the time

I think of you a lot
